Black Sandal

Founded in 2009 to promote unknown writing of prose and poetry in English and translations of other literature. There is work from Hungarian, Finnish, Swedish, Czech, German, Spanish, Italian and Galician.

We believe we are the first publishers of translations of the great Czech poet from Moravia, Jan Skácel.

Writing in English includes work in dialect as well as standard English.

The many photographs and graphics illumine the text forming an aesthetic of their own.

My great-great-uncle, founder of Schocken Press, was the first person to publish Kafka and I would like to think we are continuing a tradition of writing that is original, enigmatic and significant.
